I am not surprised. With all the acclaim CNN has gotten from Latino in America, and all the revenue they have generated from selling advertising to Latino viewers, it was no longer sustainable for the same network to have an hour per day of defamation and hate-mongering toward the very same community.
Anderson Cooper had some Latino community leaders on recently and they made this case really well. I think that the ball rolling with the higher-ups. They realized it was time for Dobbs to go.
One more thing: yaaaayy!!!!!!
Is it good to silence those we do not like? I am not a Lou Dobbs fan however, I think it is good to hear people who might not say what we want to hear.
Additionally, it is hard to accuse CNN of being far left when you have Lou Dobbs.
I had similar feelings about Ted Kennedy. He was far too liberal for me and often said things I didn’t like hearing. But…I am glad he was there. Same with Lou Dobbs. At least I felt he was his own person, for better or worse. His words were his own.
As for Fox News, I feel like they have a Murdoch script. Many aren’t their own people.
Ten bucks says he ends up on Fox.
Fox should dump Shep and Jerry (Geraldo). They should go to CNN anyway.
Maybe a radio talk show?
uh, have you seen their ratings? They suck, their the least watched news out there… they might as well merge with Telemundo.
I don’t agree with Moon on a ton of things but she is spot on with this: “Is it good to silence those we do not like? I am not a Lou Dobbs fan however, I think it is good to hear people who might not say what we want to hear. “
I think there is a lou dobbs radio show. loudobbs.com apparently has the schedule.
I was dumbfounded when I heard him. And tonight was his last night, the best that I could tell.
Why do you want Fox to dump Shep and Geraldo, Ring?
I am not sure I like the idea that we just dumb those with whom we don’t agree. I know several people who watch Fox just so they can see Shep.
@Witness Too

“Acclaim” for feel-good stuff doesn’t pay the bills. Follow the money. Their business model is a failure. Their viewers are abanding them in droves. CNN is going the way of other total failures like ‘Air America’.
the problem I had with Lou Dobbs is the also used sources that were questionable at best when it came to immigration. He never apologized for his leprosy blunder, in fact, he seemed quite unapologetic. He continually called upon people that should never have been given the credibility he gave them by having them on his show.
Having said that, let’s remember that the tide will turn one day, and we don’t necessarily want to rejoice in his leaving.
When we stack him up against many others, however, he profits from comparison.
and I don’t disagree with your problems you had with him, Elena. I just don’t want to silence him. Maybe I just want to make him more accountable. At least he just snarled and didn’t scream and shriek hysterically. I have definitely had to lower my bar.
It will be interesting to see if he floats on over to Foxy. One day we will turn on Fox and there he will be. What the Fox! There is Lou Dobbs.
Didn’t we have this discussion on here last week?
Interesting. I used to watch Dobbs all the time, but I haven’t seen him in a long, long time, and I’ve heard his ratings are down there with Olbermann and Rick Maddow, so I was a little surprised he lasted as long as he did. Then there was some sort of controversy over someone shooting at his house. I need to see some details. No ratings, no show (except on MSNBC).
I heard something about Dobbs and Fox Business Network, but nothing concrete. One thing is certain, any day that racist organizations like El Presente and La Raza are celebrating is a bad for the nation.
I don’t advocate silencing anyone, not even Greg Letiecq or Corey Stewart. I just felt it was misleading for Lou Dobbs to be on a news channel otherwise known for outstanding journalism. I would not object at all to Dobbs resurfacing on Fox, or a KKK website, or just continuing his radio show.
According to Nielsen, CNN’s viewership is down 25 percent since the same time last year. Last Tuesday night, CNN placed fourth with its election coverage, with 826,000 viewers, compared to Fox’s 4 million.
Dobbs is likely leaving the sinking ship and going for the winner.
He was CNN’s anchor of longest duration.
You are more generous about our locals than I am, Witness. I guess holding my ears is one way to do it.
Do you also think that NAACP is a racist organization, Slow? I see almost no difference in it and la Raza. <—– the organization for the advancement of Latinos, not the gang.
What is El Presente?
We were probably the first blog to break this news. The fingers flew the minute I heard the news.
Maybe Kanye West should feel like Jackass and Schmuck of the year. Taylor Swift just swept the CMA. She ended up getting entertainer of the year. She was extremely gracious and called her band up on stage to share her glory.
She was up against some powerful competition. It makes one wonder how much Kanye West’s stupidity helped her out for a sympathy vote.
@Moon-howler
The NAACP doesn’t make the bulk of it’s money labeling other people/organizations “racist”. Racists, to me, think exclusively in terms of race. I don’t hear the NAACP doing that. Are the conscious of race? of course. Is it to the exclusion of rationality? No. The SPLC, Al Sharpton, La Raza, on the other hand…..well if the shoe fits. Mmmmm, nothing like a 2:00am Alka-Seltzer!
There has definitely been an orchestrated movement against Lou Dobbs staying on at CNN. Other people have pointed out that Dobbs has changed his language when speaking about the immigration issue. His statement speaks of a more ‘activist’ role, don’t know if that equates with going to Fox though it would be a better fit for him. We’ll have to wait and see… Sometimes it’s said be careful what you wish for…
I have a real hard time with “advocacy journalism.” Dobbs is considered a “reporter” of some kind, right? So if he is engaged with “advocacy” at the same time, the term admits biased reporting. If you are advocating, you clearly take a side. Hence, you are editorializing, not reporting.
At least if Dobbs continues with the “Lou Dobbs Show” we know it’s his show and not necessarily a claim to balanced news reporting.
Unfortunately, I can see Dobbs running for office.
If he runs for office, I applaud it.
If he goes to FOX News, I applaud also, as he might move the center of gravity among right-wing conservatives towards law enforcement on the illegal immigration issue. It would be great if at least one of the two parties felt constrained to offer the American people an honest attempt at enforcing US law.
I agree with you on the fact he will end up on Fox. Why dump Shep or Geraldo? Fox News is “fair and balanced”, right? They need Shep and Geraldo for balance. I say dump Cavuto, because he’s got the new Fox Business Channel. Or get rid of that freak Beck.
I see Lou Dobbs as being an opinion show based on his interpretation of the news, similar to Beck, O’Reilly, and Hannity.
He started off as a financial reporter, back in the day.
@Moon-howler
I just don’t see Dobbs as being as nutty as Beck or as “neo-con” as Hannity. O’Reilly should not be lumped in with those other two. imho.
I better leave “town” so I don’t killed for that one.
I see his show as being like their shows. All 4 are commentators rather than news anchors.
I would say Dobbs follows his own script rather than quoting the party line. I actually agree with you about O’Reilly not being as nasty as Hannity (oh you said neo con) and as nutty as Beck. However, he is his own brand of being an ego-maniac. I actually agree with him about 20% of the time. I am not ready to declare him one of the good guys though, not based on 20%. Usually my agreement goes along with things like locking up child molesters etc.
Lou Dobbs used to be a center of misinformation. It is hard to give credence to someone who backs up his anti illegal immigration stance by saying they are bringing leprosy into the country. He never retracted that statement to my knowledge. I haven’t watched him in a long time and it was pure luck that I had the TV on cnn at 7 last night. It was background noise until I heard him resign.
I agree, O’Reilly doesn’t seem as bad now that Beck is fully a circus freak and Hannity makes no attempt to balance his far right opinion and misinformation. Dobbs was more insidious than O’Reilly because Dobbs did such a good job of mimicking real news. He used to be a credible journalist, whereas the others never have been.
O’Reilly, to his credit, never pretended to be a news show other then his slogans. Watching him you knew it was his opinion, take it or leave it. He’d often have guests on just to shout at them. But he did also seem capable of thinking for himself, and even conceeding that there is a real world outside the Fox propaganda bubble where some facts at least should be acknowledged.
Whereas Dobbs and Beck are more hateful and ignorant in their expression of their beliefs, Hannity and O’Reilly are more partisan and see hate and ignorance merely as a means to an end.
Beck though is the only one who is moving the debate now days. The other three have long ago been exposed as propagandists and are written off by mainstream America. Beck has something special though, a theatrical hysteria that goes them all one better, and perhaps more closely matches the tragic lunacy of their overlapping audience.
Beck is frightening because he isn’t unlikeable. He makes faces at himself and has self -deprecating humor. It is sort of hard to hate the guy. It is easy to hate Hannity and O’Reilly can knock you out of any decent feelings about him by showing one of his spittle rants which can even turn on Fox News people (him and Geraldo)
Beck has millions convinced of a great leftist conspiracy theory.
Dobbs – Palin 2012 !!!
(Might be the only thing that can save the Democrats)
I rarely watched Lou Dobbs, but whenever I did, he was always talking about the same thing. Here is the press release from BastaDobbs.com, the coalition advocating for Dobbs’ dismissal from CNN, which I agree with 100%. You can see their video at http://bastadobbs.com/video
I am relieved to know that it is still wrong to demonize a group of people.
Press Release:
BastaDobbs.com Announces Victory: Lou Dobbs to Leave CNN
NEW YORK – Responding to the news Wednesday that Lou Dobbs will leave his post as a longtime anchor on CNN, the leaders of BastaDobbs.com – a national Latino-led coalition that had been advocating for his ouster – released the following statement:
“Our contention all along was that Lou Dobbs – who has a long record of spreading lies and conspiracy theories about immigrants and Latinos – does not belong on the ‘Most Trusted Name in News,’” said Roberto Lovato, co-founder of Presente.org, a national online advocacy organization coordinating the BastaDobbs.com campaign in conjunction with more than 40 local and regional Latino organizations from across the country. “We are thrilled that Dobbs no longer has this legitimate platform from which to incite fear and hate.”
The BastaDobbs.com campaign launched in mid-September, and included online petitions, a viral YouTube video, text-message campaign, radio PSAs and a series of events in 18 cities – organized in conjunction with the CNN special Latino in America. The message to CNN was that courting Latino viewers while keeping Dobbs on the network would not with them favor with the fastest-growing demographic in the country. Since then, more than 100,000 people have joined the effort. The events and the campaign garnered significant press coverage in both Spanish-language and mainstream media.
Lovato said the BastaDobbs.com victory marks a key turning point for the Latino community, as it moved from marching in the streets in 2006 to mounting a successful, high-tech campaign against one of the biggest and strongest media voices against common-sense immigration reform.
“The community is newly empowered and energized, and we are ready to fight for a respectful and civil media discourse when it comes to immigration coverage on mainstream news,” Lovato said. “This is only the beginning of a much longer-term effort.”

I tried to watch a little bit of Beck, at a friend’s request. Can’t take him, based on style alone. He’s smug and effeminate. An unlikeable know-it-all who rather obviously knows little.
South Park last night was about Beck. Cartman gets the job doing school announcements, and becomes Glenn Beck-like, constantly berating Class President Wendy Testaburger for a vast socialist plot, and drawing anagrams on a blackboard. It’s up at http://www.southparkstudios.com – be warned, as usual it’s got its gross and disturbing moments.
Beck / Palin 2012 -Fufill the Prophecy!
Thanks for the link, Firedancer. I believe it was a mutually agreed upon termination. Who knows what went on behind the scenes.
Rick, that is priceless. I missed the gross part. Should I be glad?
I had never thought about Beck being effeminate. I will get back to you on that. Smug, no argument, but much of that is diffused because of the self-deprecating humor.
He needs a new prop. The blackboard is old. Maybe power point would be more effective? MEOW
@Rick Bentley
Thanks for the SouthPark clip. I’ll have to watch the whole espisode. SNL is not what it once was at all but here’s a pretty funny clip of “Fox New Election” from this past weekend.
The real entertainment begins with about 1:50 remaining in the clip. Jason Sedeikis was AWESOME!!!
http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/clips/fox-news-election-open/1173560/
It doesnt hurt that Sedeikis looks so much like Beck.
If you guys want to see it right now, they actually have the full episode available to watch free at that site. They have all the show’s episodes there, and put new ones up next-day after the first airing.
The SNL bit was funny. Kristen Wiig was great, as usual.

Skip the first 2:15 to mitigate the grotesqueness.
Rick, thanks for the SouthPark link. I love that show and catch it when I can. I’ll never miss another episode, thanks to you. I’ll have to get some “cheezy poofs” to have while I watch.
No one need ever miss another South Park! Too bad its usually not funny anymore …
